Tax Deductible In-Kind Donations That Help Homeless Kids

Giving the items and services homeless kids need is an excellent way to support Covenant House's work.
In-kind donations are gifts of goods and services rather than money, and can be made by individuals or organizations. While homeless kids are in our care, Covenant House provides everything they need – food, clothing, a safe place to sleep – and donations of goods and services can be extremely valuable to help us meet our kids’ needs.

If you would like to make an in-kind donation, we recommend calling the Covenant House location nearest you. If you are not near a Covenant House location or you have other questions, please contact us.

Below are some of the many items that we need:

Hygienic Supplies

Our kids use and need all the same hygienic supplies that you do. The next time you are re-stocking your bathroom, pick up something extra for a Covenant House kid.

 Examples: Soap, toothpaste, deodorant, mouthwash, eye care, hair care products.

Clothing

Kids often walk into Covenant House with nothing more than the clothes on their backs – and those usually need a good washing. We provide clothing for them to change into the minute they get off the streets, and we have a special collection for when kids are walking into job interviews.

Examples: Adult coats, sneakers, undergarments & socks (new), professional clothing for young men and women, jeans, t-shirts, sweaters, pajamas.

Educational Items

It is our mission to get kids back on their feet with job training and education. When you go shopping to get school supplies for your kids, think about the many kids who don’t have a parent to help them.

Examples: Pens/pencils, bookbags, notebooks, looseleaf and computer paper, computers and printers for our learning centers, balls for our recreation centers.

Help Centers – Items for the Home

If you were a kid used to sleeping on park benches or under bridges, clean sheets and a soft pillow seem like an incredible luxury… one that you can help provide. Thanks to your help, our kids say that Covenant House isn’t a shelter, but a home.

Examples: Blankets, pillows, towels, twin sheet sets, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, kitchen supplies, non-perishable food, motivational movies and books, batteries and extension cords, clothing hangers.

Things for New Moms and New Babies

Being a new mother is hard for anyone. But it is especially hard for young women trying to escape the hardships of life in the projects or on the streets. Often with limited education, no jobs, and no parents to help them, they know they can count on Covenant House.

Examples: Prenatal care items, baby hygienic products, onesies & other baby clothing, baby toys, strollers, walkers, changing tables.

Independent Living Needs

When kids join our Rights of Passage program, we provide them with up to 18 months support in one of our transitional living homes, enabling them to get the guidance and assistance they need while learning to care for themselves and saving for the future.

Examples: Pots and pans, utensils, dishes, storage containers, toasters, microwaves, cookbooks, luggage.
