Who is Required to pay Zakat?

Paying Zakat is mandatory if:

  1. The individual is free, sane, adult and Muslim.
  2. Individual has wealth more than the prescribed minimum known as Nisab.
  3. The wealth is held for a complete lunar year.
  4. The wealth is productive in nature, allowing the individuals to derive profit from the same.

A lot of people choose Ramadan as the month in which they pay their zakat; both to remember it, and also because the reward for good deeds done in this blessed month is multiplied.
